On Digital camcorders Digital camcorders are widely used by both amateurs and professionals and are acknowledged as an effective medium to shoot, edit and project events or other objects of interests. As a combination of a video camera and recorder, it is a much advanced version of its predecessor analogue camcorder. Evolving technology has effected periodical changes in the product. Instead of tapes, modern camcorders use optical disks, hard disk drives and flash memory. Innumerable models of camcorders are available today; some of them are mentioned in the concluding part of this article. Point-and-shoot fully automatic digital camcorders are widely sought after by amateur photographers. Professionals prefer semi automatic models which they can skillfully manipulate for superb output. In general digital camcorders are well known for their super video quality. Higher resolution will enable them to retain the contents even after many digital transfers. The process of shooting and editing are easier and even beginners can handle the device with ease. There are mainly four types of these high-tech electronic gadgets that are used widely. They are MiniDV, Digital-8, Micro-MV and camcorders. MiniDV is the most popular version among them. It is very small in size with tape capable of recording 60 to 90 minutes. Micro-MV is another model which can record data in MPEG-2 format with a higher compression ratio than the MiniDV. However it is difficult to locate suitable editing software for this format. Digital-8 is having larger capacity to handle more data, even though it is of the same format as MiniDV. It is having Fire wire option to transfer data to computers.
